Autobee Club, Inc. 501(c)(3)
Charles Autobee (Urtubise or Ortuize)
Charles Autobee (Urtubise or Ortuize) was born in St Louis in 1812 son of a French-Canadian François Autobees and Sara T. Tate. Charles was one of the oldest and best-known Frontiersmen, traders, and fur trappers in the Rocky Mountain region. He was a familiar figure among numerous Native American Indigenous tribes including the Arapaho, Blackfoot, Cheyenne, Teton Lakota, Navajo, Pueblo and Ute.
Charles married Serafina Avila in Taos, New Mexico, on 28 November 1842. In 1850, he and his family were living in Questa, New Mexico. Charles homesteaded a ranch near the junction of the Huerfano and Arkansas Rivers in 1853. He died 29 years later, 17 June 1882, and was buried in the Saint Vrain Cemetery in Avondale/Boone, Colorado.
The Autobee Family is the “First Permanent and Second Oldest Settlement of South Eastern Colorado.”
As with anything in life, change is inevitable if you want to continue surviving and thriving. The Autobee Club Inc. has recently undergone leadership changes that are taking our small club from a family-exclusive and limited organization to a more inclusive, nationally recognized 501(c)(3) with unlimited potential. We will still be the place for all things Autobee but are expanding our outreach and boosting our potential for more impactful support for the immediate and surrounding communities. Whether it be community outreach and education, donating and supporting local clubs, community improvements, and projects, partnering with other non-profits and community organizations to improve our quality of life, participating in local events and state-wide initiatives, hosting events and raising funds to support our club in giving back to our community. We are dedicated to our purpose and to improving upon the legacy the Autobee Club has foundationally provided. We look forward to continuing to serve our community and hope you will join us for the remarkable work we are doing and the privilege we have of serving those in our community and surrounding areas.
